Olivia Wilde has been chatting about the state of Tron 3, and what's delayed it so far, as well as what the focus for the new film will be.

It looks as though Disney is finally ready to press ahead again with a new Tron movie. Since the release of Tron: Legacy back in 2010, there's been continual chatter about a Tron 3, reuniting Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. Yet until recently, there's been precious little sign of progress.

However, in a chat with Collider, Olivia Wilde has been explaining what's been holding things up, as rumours build that Tron 3 may be in production before the end of the year.

"The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story. It hasn't been anything else," she affirmed. "So, in the past year, the right story kind of came together and we felt 'oh, this actually – this might be the right one to tell.' And, you know, there’s still a lot to be done before it could actually happen, but the fact that there’s a goal of this year to start is really exciting."

That seems to confirm the plan to shoot before the end of 2015 for a start. Furthermore, Wilde also confirmed to the site that she'd read a screenplay for Tron 3 too. This one might all be coming together, revealing that the main storyline will be about Quorra (and presumably the rest of the Grid eventually) entering and interacting with the real world.

Says Wilde, "And I’m really excited to see what happens to that character when put into the real world. I think it’s an interesting concept. I’m fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that’s like a personal device, I think it’s the time to tell this story.”

Joseph Kosinski is attached to direct Tron 3.
