A movie based on classic sci-fi anti-war novel The Forever War is the subject of a bidding war at the moment...
NewsJoe Haldeman's classic sci-fi novel, The Forever War, is headed to the screen. It's just a question of which studio gets it done.
Channing Tatum is set to star in the adaptation, which could end up with Warner Bros., Sony, or a mystery studio...depending on who has the blankest checkbook with the most room for zeroes. Promethuswriter Jon Spaihts (also working on Doctor Strange) is writing.
There's a quantum physics, Interstellarlike angle to the story involving relativity, as well. It's definitely not the kind of thing that we've seen on screen in tandem with a potential sci-fi shoot 'em up.
When a friend of mine first placed a copy of The Forever War in my hands, it was with a word of caution. Essentially, if reading Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers has given you some romantic and/or patriotic desire to join the military...reading Joe Haldeman's The Forever War should cleanse you of that notion in short order.
