Underworld 5 now has its original star back with Kate Beckinsale, a new director, and a production start date.
NewsI generally reject terms like "guilty pleasure." I like what I like. And y'know what? I enjoy the first Underworldfilm. The sequels are a mixed bag, to be sure, but there's no doubt that the franchise is alive. Or, at the very least, undead. Underworld 5 is on the way.
Not only is Underworld 5 on the way, it's bringing back original star Kate Beckinsale as crucial Underworldcharacter, Selene. She'll star alongside Theo James, reprising his role as David from Underworld: Awakening. Anna Foerster will direct.
Bloody Disgusting (who have been on top of this project forever) have it pegged as Underworld: Next Generation. That "Next Generation" tag doesn't imply that Patrick Stewart will sprout fangs any time soon, but it shores up what The Hollywood Reporter says about the movie: that it's about a "new and younger generation of vampires and werewolves who are locked in a seemingly never-ending battle between supernatural races."
Cory Goodman (writer of Paul Bettany vampire-slayer, Priest, and Vin Diesel's upcoming The Last Witch Hunter) is writing Underworld5, and the film begins production this October.
