Melissa Benoist has been cast in one of the lead roles of Lowriders, a new East LA drama from Universal and Blumhouse Productions.
NewsWhile audiences have yet to see one full episode of Melissa Benoist taking off like a bird, a plane, or a Supergirl, the actress’ career is certainly taking flight in other directions, including in the project Lowriders—a drama about the car scene in East LA.
Set up through Blumhouse Productions, who previously produced the Oscar winning Whiplash, which Benoist featured in with a small role, Lowriders tells the story of a teenager caught between his traditional father and his gangbanging brother. However, since both are competing in the lowrider “Supershow,” it is hard to imagine that any of the above are that traditional.
Lowriders also stars Demian Bichir, Eva Longoria, Tony Revolori, Gabriel Chavarria, Theo Rossi and Yvette Monreal, and is directed by Josh Bierne-Gordon. For her part, Benoist landed the role of Lorelai, which previously had attracted the interest of Lily Collins and Nicola Peltz.
In the meantime, in the highly unlikely chance you missed it, below is the first trailer for Benoist as Supergirl.
