Tilda Swinton may be joining the cast of Marvel's Doctor Strange movie, but not in the role you might expect...
Things have been pretty quiet on the Scott Derrickson Doctor Strangemovie since Benedict Cumberbatch was announced as the lead. That's about to change. Tilda Swinton is in talks to join Marvel's Doctor Strange movie...as mystical mentor The Ancient One.
The Ancient One is a Tibetan mystic who starts Stephen Strange on his journey to become Earth's Sorcerer Supreme, the most powerful magic user in the world who defends our realm against all manner of supernatural threats.
Tilda Swinton would be quite a get for a Marvel project, although it does potentially raise the issue of whitewashing a character that has traditionally been portrayed as Asian. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel was originally looking for a male for the role, but changed their minds.
Doctor Strange is directed by Scott Derrickson with a script Jon Spaihts. Benedict Cumberbatch stars. It opens on November 4th, 2016.
