The team behind Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D want to do a proper remake of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead.

You probably didn't realize that you even wanted another Day of the Dead remake, did you? Yet here we are, still trying to forget the regrettably forgettable 2008 version, and wondering what a new version of this could bring to the table. Nevertheless, it looks like this one is happening thanks to the producers of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell, who, along with Millenium Films and Taurus Entertainment are going to take a stab at Romero's original.

Lati Grobman told Deadline: "Contrary to other recent zombie remakes, our Day of the Dead will honor Romero’s original vision by reviving the slow, brooding zombie that terrorized so many of our childhoods. The trend of the fast, agile, ‘sprinting’ zombie creates a lot of great jump-out-of-your-seat moments, but it doesn’t compare to the psychological fear and tension that builds when going up against Romero’s original undead army.” It would certainly appear that Grobman isn't a fan of the zombies in Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake or those in films like 28 Days Later.

The Day of the Deadremake is budgeted at a modest $10-20 million as of this writing. Considering how much of the original takes place in a concrete bunker, it's easy to see why these films can be made on the cheap. Day of the Dead is arguably the most interesting of Romero's original zombie trilogy and remains one of the more compelling zombie stories ever told. We'll keep an eye on this one for you...
