As Daredevil's Steven DeKnight signs up for Transformers duties, it's revealed that up to a dozen scripts are likely to be worked on...

Further recruits have been added to the writer's room for the planned Transformers movie universe. The story so far on this is that Akiva Goldsman is heading up a collection of scribes, that already features The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, Christina Hodson & Lindsey Beer, Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (who worked on Ant-Man), Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (Pacific Rim), Zak Penn (Pacific Rim 2) and Jeff Pinker (Lost). So, including Goldsman, that's seven writing teams, and 10 individual writers.

But there's more. At the end of last week, Black Hawk Down's Ken Nolan signed up, as did Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who's been writing a space thriller for Roland Emmerich. And now we learn that Daredevil season one showrunner Steven DeKnight is on board as well. So, we make that 10 writing teams, and 13 individual writers.

This number is important, as Goldsman has been chatting with Deadline about how the writing room is going to work. And to quote the article, "all of the writers will come away with this exercise with a movie treatment to write, including Goldsman. Those writers will then have first crack at writing the scripts for treatments that meet the approval of Paramount, [Michael] Bay, [Steven] Spielberg, Hasbro, and the producers."

As Goldsman put it, "if one of the writers discovers an affinity for Beast Wars, they can drive forward on treatments that will have been fleshed out by the whole room."

So: if each writer is working on their own treatment, then this strikes us a relatively quick way to get potentially 13 different Transformersfilms up and running. The priority remains Transformers 5, which the team need to have cracked by the time Michael Bay is done directing siege drama 13 Hours.

More on the assorted Transformers movies as we hear it. The writers' room started work on the new films yesterday...
