New rumors abound about Indiana Jones 5 coming in 2018. But don't grab the whip just yet....
Despite Disney and Lucasfilm having their hands pretty full between now and sometime in the next century with Star Wars films, beginning with this winter’s The Force Awakens, the rumors about their next movie always seems to return to the fedora and the whip. While there has yet to be any seriously concrete news about an Indiana Jones 5 other than Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy suggesting last month that the studio will probably make a fifth Dr. Jones film someday, the whispers continue to swirl.
In that very vein, AICN claims today that they have a “trustworthy” source (who is apparently not one of their also anonymous Lucasfilm contacts) that’s unspooled the next Indiana Jones picture will swing into multiplexes some time during the fourth quarter of 2018 (so probably around Christmas).
Still, we suspect this is one myth that can safely be filed into the “grain of salt” musuem, such as when Deadline insisted Disney was aggressively seeking to sign Chris Pratt for the leather jacket and hat. Granted, as he is coming off the highest grossing opening weekend of all time this week with Jurassic World, it would make sense that he is more attractive than ever to replace Harrison Ford at the House of Mouse. However, Pratt remains adamant that he has barely had a conversation about it with Disney.
Further, Frank Marhsall, who produced all four previous Spielberg/Ford Indiana Jones films, and who is married to Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, also talked about the potential sequel today with Slashfilm. And unlike, AICN, this on-the-record interview has Marshall saying plainly that there are “no discussions on Indy 5 to date.”
For better or worse, a fifth Indy movie is coming, whether Spielberg, Ford, or even Pratt is associated with it or not. But I don’t think John Williams needs to be dusting off his Raiders music sheet just yet…
