Julia Stiles is reteaming with Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass for the fifth Jason Bourne movie.
NewsIt looks like the entire band is getting back together. Despite creating a “shared universe” Bourne franchise beginning with 2012’s The Bourne Legacy, everything that made the original Bourne Trilogy a much more smashing success for Universal is coming back for the next film. Matt Damon back as Jason Bourne? Check. Paul Greengrass, the director of The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum back behind the camera? Double check. Now, Julia Stiles is also returning for the role of Nicky Parsons.
As confirmed by Deadline, Stiles’ reprisal of her Bourne character marks the first major casting in the film besides Damon himself. Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander is also in talks to star in a new female lead role, yet there has been no official signing yet made.
Universal has been having an amazing 2015 so far with Furious 7 making $1.5 billion worldwide and Jurassic World chomping The Avengers’ opening weekend record when it grossed $208.8 million this past weekend. So, betting on the studio that continues to prove it has massive amounts of nostalgia for its older franchises is a good gamble for next year too.
The untitled Jason Bourne 5 opens July 29, 2016.
