In an interesting bit of marketing, Universal has released yet another poster for this summer’s Kick-Ass 2. And most intriguingly, it appears to be falling back on the poster design of Lionsgate’s oft-panned one-sheet strategy for the first film. That means lots of faces with their primary color coding visually leaking off the page in splashes of liquid.
Likely trying to remind audiences of the much-beloved DVD and Blu-ray that sold very well for the first film (unlike its box office run), we are treated again to the faces of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse in their full costumed regalia. Most intriguingly is Jim Carrey’s face taking the top and most attention grabbing spot on the one-sheet. Pretty ballsy on Universal’s part to remind us of the actor who has since distanced himself from the film for its supposed level of violence. Then again, that may have been the idea.
Also, amusingly, Kick-Ass takes the third slot on the totem poll. But then again, it is in fitting with the character that he is constantly overshadowed by his pint-sized avenging partner and the marquee name who has already given the film a ton of bloody good exposure.
In related news, Mintz-Plasse, aka the Mother Fucker, got his own new still this week.
Kick-Ass 2 will try to do just that at the box office on August 16.
