If this means what we think it means, the next installment of the Star Trek franchise could be here much sooner than we think. Speaking at the Galway Film Festival in Ireland, Zachary Quinto, a man who presumably knows what he's talking about, had a few words to say about the status of the next Star Trek sequel.
"Star Trek 3 should be filming, I suppose, next year." said Quinto. "It's going to be made a lot quicker than the last one. That's the plan, although nothing is confirmed yet."
BuzzHub, who were on the scene and reported this (link below) also claim that Quinto believes that J.J. Abrams intends to direct this next Star Trek film, as well. However, this might be worth taking with a grain of salt, as Abrams is scheduled to begin production on Star Wars Episode VII in January (you can read more about that here), which would presumably make it difficult for him to also work on a new Star Trek film.
BuzzHub have promised more from Quinto in coming days, so click on over there and see what develops.
