Paramount has picked a writer for the third installment in their G.I. Joe movie series.
While we're still dealing with the hangover from Transformers 4 and the impending threat of Transformers 5 in 2016, let's not forget that Paramount has another toy-inspired franchise with a sequel in the cards that year. That would be G.I. Joe 3, a film that has been without both a writer and a director. Well, at least they've solved the first part.
Jonathan Lemkin (perhaps best known for Devil's Advocate) will write G.I. Joe 3. Some of you may recognize Lemkin's name as one of the parade of writers who took a stab at Superman Lives/Superman Reborn scripts while that project languished in development hell in the late '90s. Now, before you dismiss G.I. Joe 3 entirely, I'd like to point out that G.I. Joe: Retaliation was really a rather good time, and far less headachey than that other toy-to-film franchise.
Expect G.I. Joe 3to be pretty Roadblock heavy, as Paramount would like to try and pin this franchise on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's charisma. Adrianne Palicki will likely return as Lady Jaye, as well. You can probably expect G.I. Joe 3 around spring/summer 2016. We'd like to make one more suggestion, though: more Snake Eyes, please.
