White Queen's Rebecca Ferguson has been cast as a lead of Mission: Impossible 5. Alec Baldwin also in talks to star in the movie.
One of the most curious and entertaining thing about Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible series is other than Tom Cruise (and for the most part Ving Rhames), no two films have the same director, cast, or feel. While most other franchises strive for sameness and the monotony of repetition, each Mission: Impossible is a clean slate in the spy game with the IMF. This can sometimes lead to duds like John Woo’s Mission: Impossible 2, but it also gives us gems like the first Brian De Palma film, or the most recent Brad Bird escapist yarn, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.
Well, as Paramount gears up for an August start on Mission: Impossible 5 with Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher) as the writer/director, the pieces are falling in place for the movie’s other aspects. First and foremost, Swedish actress Rebecca Ferguson has been cast in the lead female role for the film. While details of the part are yet unknown, Ferguson is an obvious up-and-comer with her work on the Starz/BBC War of the Roses co-production The White Queen.
Further Deadline is also reporting that Alec Baldwin is in talks to star as the head of the CIA in the new film—a position filled in previous films by the likes of Anthony Hopkins and Lawrence Fishburne. If he is cast in that role, we hope he gives Tom Cruise the same kind of motivational speech he had in store once for Jack Lemmon and Al Pacino.
M:I5 is set to drop into movie theaters on Christmas Day 2015.
