A lack of funding is likely to put an end to hopes of Hellboy 3, admits Guillermo del Toro...
Once upon a time, it was Ron Perlman who was expressing doubt over the possibility of Hellboy 3, whilst Guillermo del Toro was more positive about it. However, it seems the tables have turned a little. In more recent times, Perlman has been a lot more upbeat about returning to Hellboy, yet it's del Toro who appears to be dampening expectations.
As part of a Reddit AMA, del Toro admitted that "creatively, I would love to make it", but outlined the stumbling block. "It has proven almost impossible to finance. Not from my side, but from the studio side. If I was a multimillionaire I would finance it myself, but I spend all my money on rubber monsters".
del Toro's immediate slate is rather full too, of course. He's been working on the TV series of The Strain, and he's putting the finishing touches to his next feature, Crimson Peak. After that, he has Pacific Rim 2 to deliver for an April 2017 release.
Beyond that? We can but hope that someone finds some spare change down the back of the sofa for one more Hellboymovie. del Toro has outlined the plot, so they know which way it would go. "The idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact tht his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse", del Toro revealed. "In order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the third film, he has to become the beast of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being".

Why not make it as a kickstarter project? with some prizes from production and some treats from the actors?
If Harry Knowles can do it (and not produce anything), why can't GDT? (And DelToro won't wind up on Kickstarter's Fraud Watch like a certain plump ginger...)
