The popular Uncharted game series will get a film adaptation set for June 2016.
There's been a lot of news about Sony's film projects lately. First, it was reported that the rebooted Spider-Man franchise that the studio was putting all of its effort into was jeopardy of being derailed by the split of writing duo Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The studio was in the process of developing a shared movie universe in the vein of the Avengers by also trying to launch spin-off films like Venom and The Sinister Six.
Then, earlier today we got word that Orci's comments may have been a bit overblown, and that the studio was just doing some reshuffling. The Amazing Spider-Man 3, which was set for May 2016 had been pushed back to 2018, and now The Sinister Six will officially be their next effort, coming November 16, 2016.
Now we have confirmation that The Sinister Six won't be a lone effort in Sony's plans for 2016. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Uncharted film adaptation will be hitting theaters June 10, 2016. The movie is based on the popular game series that follows adventurer Nathan Drake on his quests to find treasure.
The film is being directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) and the script is being handled by David Guggenheim (Safe House). At one point, David O. Russel was attached to direct the project, with Mark Wahlberg set to star, but the director dropped out, with Wahlberg following suit.
Naughty Dog, the games developers, also are hard at work on Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which is being created for Playstation 4.
