Marvel have announced a release date for Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and that Josh Brolin is playing Thanos.
While this isn't much of a surprise, it's still worth noting. The two biggest announcements to come out of Marvel Studios' Hall H spotlight panel at the San Diego Comic-Con were both Guardians of the Galaxy related.
First off, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is a lock for July 28th, 2017. And yes, James Gunn will be back in the director's chair, and (as reported yesterday) will write the screenplay. Look, he even said so on Twitter.
Yes, I’m writing and directing the sequel to #GuardiansoftheGalaxy for theaters July 28 2017. But first go see the first one out next week!

Marvel also took this opportunity, several months after this was leaked, to confirm that Josh Brolin is playing Thanos in both Guardiansmovies and, presumably, Avengers 3. In a bit of fun, Mr. Brolin strolled out on stage wearing his very own Infinity Gauntlet. A nice touch, to be sure, but it seems that Marvel played things a little too safe this year.
