Amityville: The Awakening, the latest film inspired by the spooky haunted house has a brand new trailer.
A good foundation is necessary to support a house. Well, if that's the case, then a certain Amityville home, where paranormal activity supposedly haunted a family in 1975, brought about by the previous owner’s son shooting and killing six family members, must be made of diamonds. The infamous house has provided the foundation for countless books and eleven films, including the last big screen version in 2005 starring Ryan Reynolds.
Now the Amityville house will provide inspiration for film number 12. Part sequel, part retelling, Amityville: The Awakening aims to teach the uninformed about the past-alleged horrors of the haunted house while presenting some new scares of its own. With haunted house horrors like The Conjuring and Insidious making spooky amounts of cash, it only makes sense that Amityville is back in the spotlight.
The new film stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, who has quietly been popping back up in Hollywood, as a mother who has just picked a horrible new piece of real estate. The new family is schooled on the legends of Amityville by a local high school student, and Leigh’s severely ill, comatose son starts sporting new symptoms that indicate something more than what doctors might diagnose. Add some creepy kids, a teenage girl, and an unbelieving Kurtwood Smith, and you've got yourself a new installment in the horror-by-the-numbers franchise.
Amityville: The Awakening will frighten audiences on January 2, 2015. Yahoo! has the trailer, which we’ve made available for you here.
