The first details of The Amazing Spider-Man spinoff, the Venom movie, have started to surface. Here's what Alex Kurtzman had to say...
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 may have been panned, and The Amazing Spider-Man 3may be delayed, but talk of Sony's Spider-Man spinoff movies, The Sinister Sixand Venom(which may be titled Venom Carnage), has continued unabated. After hearing bits and pieces about Drew Goddard's Sinister Six movie (which has a November 16th, 2016 release date), the latest deals with the other villain-centric spinoff, Venom, and it comes from that film's writer/director Alex Kurtzman.
"There are certain lines that Spider-Man won't cross, because he's Peter Parker, and Peter Parker will only do certain things...Venom is an entirely different character," Mr. Kurtzman told MTV. To which, everyone says "no kidding, Alex." But he continued on a bit:
"Venom in a weird way is the representation of every line that will get crossed, so he's a much darker character. I wouldn't even really say more complicated, because I think they are both very complicated characters. I think the attraction for me to Venom is that you can do things that you can't do with Spider-Man."
If Venom(or Venom Carnage) is treated more like a horror film than the superhero-by-numbers approach of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, perhaps he's on to something. If Venomand Sinister Sixare successful, they could open doors for an entire subgenre of superhero movies. Anyone for a Joker movie, then?
