V/H/S: Viral is the third entry in the retro found footage franchise.
A red band trailer has been unveiled for V/H/S: Viral, the third entry in the popular found footage horror franchise. This time around, according to the official synopsis, a police chase after a “deranged ice cream truck” (does that mean the vehicle itself is insane?) leads teens to take to the streets with their phones and cameras in hopes of becoming famous by capturing the next big viral video. But soon they discover that “they themselves are the stars of the next video, one where they face their own death.”
That sounds like a hybrid of the previous V/H/S films with something almost along the lines of the Ring mythology, indicating that the V/H/S team perhaps wants to shake things up for their third trip around the track. I was no fan of the first film, but liked the second V/H/S quite a bit, so it’ll be interesting to see what they’ve cooked up for this one.
The film stars a bunch of people you never heard of, but the directors this time include Justin Benson (who made the tiny but acclaimed indie Resolution), Gregg Bishop (The Other Side), Marcel Sarmiento (Deadgirl) and, most notably, Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes).
V/H/S: Viral is out on iTunes and VOD October 23, 2014 and in theaters November 21, 2014.
