See an early in-progress scene from Sony Pictures and Genndy Tartakovsky's Popeye movie, in theaters next year.
Genndy Tartakovsky of Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars fame has been trying to make Popeye for a very long time. Once intended as a live-action and animation hybrid, not unlike other recent cartoon transfers over at Sony Pictures, the movie was eventually delayed until 2015 to become a fully animated feature film, much like Tartakovsky’s Hotel Transylvania.
Now, it would appear that this release date for next fall will actually be met, and that the spinach-eating, damsel-saving sailorman will be heading to the big screens soon. So, below is Tartakovsky’s salute to his own childhood as well as the character, plus some test footage of what audiences can expect from the upcoming movie (though note it is not an actually finished scene, and the voice acting is temporary).
Popeye cruises his way into theaters with a song in his heart on September 25, 2015.
