Game of Thrones’ Aiden Gillen will not use his Little Finger to point the way out of the Maze
Little Finger is now Rat Man.
With the box office of Maze Runnerdirected by Wes Ball, sprinting past $81.5 million, a sequel was a no-brainer. Especially as it was written as a trilogy.
20th Century Fox announced that the next installment will star Aidan Gillen, who plays Littlefinger on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has been tapped to play Janson, the villain in the just-announced sequel, Maze Runner: Scorch Trials. Janson is also known as Rat-Man. Gillen is an Irish actor who you might also remember as a CIA operative in The Dark Knight.
Dylan O'Brien will return as the young labyrinthine. Wes Ball will also return to direct.
The Maze Runner is an adaptation of the first installment of the Young Adult trilogy written by James Dashner. In the next installment of the new franchise, the teen heroes who escaped the maze and are now running around on the outside, “on an Earth that is a wasteland and ravaged by solar flares.”
Last weekend, Maze Runner hit the top of the box office with $32.5 million in ticket and popcorn sales. It grossed $37.6 million worldwide for a total take of $81.5 million and it still set to open in another 27.
Maze Runner: Scorch Trialsis due to begin shooting at the end of October. Fox announced that the Maze Runner sequel will come to theaters in 2015.
