The King Kong origin story gets a polish from the Flight scribe.
Movie universes are in vogue on the big screen, and Legendary Pictures seem to be making steps toward a shared universe for its larger than life monsters after last summer’s Godzilla and the upcoming Skull Island.
Godzilla writer Max Borenstein penned the script for Skull Island, which is set to be an origin story for one of cinema’s most iconic monsters, King Kong. The script was impressive enough to have Legendary book November 4, 2016 as its release date, but now the studio is bringing Flight writer John Gatins to polish Borenstein’s draft, as he goes on to start work on the Godzilla sequel. Perhaps Gatins will be adding a more dramatic human element to the script, as he did in the deeply personal Flight.
Tom Hiddleston is set to star in Skull Island, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) set to direct. Hiddleston is also set to appear in Legendary’s Crimson Peak, Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming horror film. No other actors have been attached to the film.
We’ll be following developments on Skull Island as they come in.
