The Aunt May origins movie rumor doing the rounds yesterday? It's not a Spider-Man film Sony is making...
Well, it's probably fair to say that most of us expected this. Yesterday, a rumor sprung up at Latino Review that suggested one of the Spider-Man movie universe projects that Sony was considering was, er, an Aunt May spin-off movie. The plan, apparently, was to dig into the origin of the character.
Yep. Aunt May: Origins, which according to the original report would have been an espionage movie.
Comic Book Resources took the time to ask Sony about this one though, and was able to confirm that the rumour was, well, bollocks.
Sony told the site that it was a "silly rumor" with "no validity whatsoever." At a point where studios choose to stay mum on many rumors, that one has been denied so firmly would seem to suggest that the chances of an Aunt May movie coming are non-existent.
We'd wager cash and biscuits that it won't stop said rumors coming, however.
Note to Sony: we'd probably watch a J Jonah Jameson film...
