In the first trailer for Good Kill, we see Ethan Hawke pilot drones into the fog of war, as well as his own personal life.
TrailerIt’s remarkable how much the world of combat and war has changed in the 21st century. As the U.S. has spent every year since 2001 in combat, among many other things, we’ve seen the tools, weapons, and strategies change dramatically—most especially around the subject of drones.
Ergo, it was only a matter of time before got our first Drone War Movie, which is exactly what Good Kill looks to be. The new film from Andrew Niccol (In Time, The Host),Good Kill reunites the filmmaker with the star of his best two previous films. Ethan Hawke, who appeared in both Niccol’s Gattaca and Lord of War, stars as Major Thomas Egan, a former Air Force combat officer who has become a drone pilot. On the orders of a government demanding some “good kills,” he pilots drones into the fog of war, and possibly into the heart of his troubled marriage with Molly (January Jones). Zoe Kravitz and Bruce Greenwood also star in this very American premise.
Having already competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival last year, and appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival, Good Kill is still making the festival rounds. But with that premise, and its settled IFC Films distribution, we’re sure it will be flying stateside soon.
